Old Town Sweet Shop, formerly Temecula Country Store, will be honoring Ronald Reagan and celebrating Jelly Belly week. A mascot, dressed like a Jelly Belly, will be handing out samples, with the story of the Ronald Reagan Sports Park printed on each packet. Old Town Sweet Shop has undergone big changes. They are focusing more on sweets and less on gifts. They expanded their line of chocolates, dipped apples and retro candies.
“We are all sugar now,” a representative laughed. The store had long been referred to as “the candy store in Old Town” so it was only natural to change the name to reflect the bulk of its business.
Old Town Sweet Shop carries more than 30 varieties of Jelly Bellies. For the entire month of February, Old Town Sweet Shop will be discounting Jelly Belly products by 10% and giving 10% of the proceeds to the Friends of Ronald Reagan Sports Park monument fund.
Old Town Sweet Shop is located at 28545 Old Town Front St Ste 101 in Temecula

Jelly Bellies, Ronald Reagan and the Sports Park
What do Jelly Bellies and a sports park in Temecula have in common? The answer is: America’s 40th president, Ronald Reagan. Every year, Temecula comes together with Jelly Belly to celebrate Reagan’s birthday on February 6th. Friends of Ronald Reagan Sports Park has dubbed the first week in February “Jelly Belly Week”.
Reagan’s love affair with Jelly Bellies is well known. The influential president began eating jelly beans to counteract a pipe-smoking habit in the early ‘60s. He kept a crystal jar of them on his desk and passed them around at cabinet meetings. He was fond of saying, “You can tell a lot about a fella’s character by whether he picks out all of one color or just grabs a handful.” In honor of his presidential inauguration, the blueberry Jelly Belly was created. This new flavor was part of a very patriotic three and a half tonsof Jelly Bellies that were shipped to Washington D.C. for the occasion.
